West Michigan hangs on, beats Southern Tier 3-1

Mitch Kalleward gave West Michigan the lead in the first period, and Southern Tier was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

A goal 7:38 into the first period by Kalleward proved to be the game winner, and powered West Michigan to the victory. TJ Krajewski assisted on the tally.

West Michigan\’s penalty kill excelled, as West Michigan gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

West Michigan was led by Devin Farkas, who had one goal. Farkas scored 2:27 into the second period to make the score 2-0 West Michigan. Brendon Block picked up the assist.

West Michigan forced Southern Tier\’s goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 39 shots and forcing 36 saves. Ryan Pascarella made 19 stops and Timothy OSullivan made 17. West Michigan stifled Southern Tier\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. West Michigan was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

West Michigan also got a goal from Corey Siwula as well. Other players who recorded assists for West Michigan were Davis Hudson and Charlie Osborne, who each chipped in one.

Southern Tier could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Southern Tier was led by Philip Grippi, who scored the team\’s only goal. Grippi scored 10:09 into the third period to make the score 2-1 West Michigan. Joseph Gerace assisted on the tally.

Maxwell Barr rejected 22 shots on goal for West Michigan. West Michigan registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
