LANSING WOLVES VS TOLEDO CHEROKEE: SEPT 22/23
The weekend got off to a rocky start for the Wolves as they lost to the visiting Toledo Cherokee by the score of 5-2. The difference maker in the game was veteran goalie, Ricky Gonzalez, for the Cherokee in stopping a total of 50 shots thrown at him. A highlight for the Wolves was the scoring efforts of Noah Pipper for his second on the campaign. Former Flint Powers standout, Brendan Smith, had his first goal of the season. Will Ignatovich of Byron Center made 28 saves in the losing cause.
Saturday was a reversal of fortune as the Wolves came out with a gritty and determined effort downing Toledo in their own rink 4-3. In the return match the Wolves got strong efforts from Brendan Smith who is settling in for a very strong October and beyond. Smitty put 3 goals past the pesky Ricky Gonzalez in the rematch including the winner on an incredible effort ably assisted by team captain Bear Ross. The Cummings Georgia native also chipped in with his 1st marker of the season. The nets were manned by first time starter Drake Deering who put in a sterling effort stopping the Cherokee shooters in 27 shots.
The Wolves get a break from the schedule maker this upcoming weekend but hit the trail hard the following weekend playing a rare 3 games in 3 days weekend at home against the Wooster Oilers on Friday and Saturday at The Summit, then get right back at it against the Pittsburgh Vengeance at the Fraser Arena. Game times are Friday @ 7:30 PM, Saturday @ 1:00 PM and Sunday at 2:30 PM
