Head Coach / GM

Mark Lawrence

Mark is coming from AAA hockey where he has spent 10 years coaching and developing a program from the ground up.  Six of his last years he has coached at the Midget Major Level, producing very competitive teams in the NAPHL. This will be his third year with the Wolves.

Lawrence grew up in Burlington Ontario and started his hockey journey playing in the OHL.  From there Mark was drafted to the Minnesota North Stars and was under contract with them for the next 5 years, he then went on to play for the New York Islanders for another 5 years.  Lawrence finished his playing career coming back to where he started in Kalamazoo with the K-Wings in the UHL.  After a career ending injury Lawrence took over the Head Coach position for one year.

Mark resides in Mattawan, Michigan with wife Denise, and kids Whitney, Michael and Brady.

Assistant General Manager

Doug Bailey

                Doug has over 25 years of coaching background. He has been the Regional Scout for the Soo Eagles NAHL for 3 years before joining the Eagles at the NAHL level he spent 1 year working with the Corpus Christi Icerays for current Coach of the Metro Jets Justin Quennville. Doug was the Head of Scouting/Director of player personel for the now defunct Flint Jr Generals NA3HL/CSHL. His proudest moment was being the NA3HL overall regular season league champion in 2011/2012. My most important role with the Wolves will be in player recruitment & college placement opportunities. Doug resides in Grand Blanc Michigan with wife Tami and his furry kids Bubba & Beanie. He has 3 grown kids Josh, Joyce & Jacee. His newfound just this year gifts are grandson Joey, granddaughter Karter Lynn & soon to be making an appearance in October Bailey Marie. His goals are to continue getting our kids opportunities at the NAHL & College levels.

Assistant Coach

Brian Tulik

 

Brian grew up playing youth and junior hockey in Edmonton, Alberta before coming to Kalamazoo to play college hockey for the WMU Broncos on a hockey scholarship. Brian was the captain of the Broncos his Junior and Senior year and graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and a Business minor. After college, Brian played pro hockey for the Raleigh Icecaps in the ECHL.  In 1993 Brian started his coaching career with the West Michigan Warriors AAA program where he coached until 1996. From 1994-96 he was an Assistant coach with the Kalamazoo K-Wings in the IHL. 1997-99 he was an Assistant coach for the Gaylord Grizzlies and the Grand Rapids Bearcats of the NAHL. In 1999, Brian became the Director of Coaching for the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association where he worked until the fall of 2016. In 2008 Brian got back into coaching and coached the 98 KOHA K-Wings Travel team. He coached the 98 team for 3 seasons before taking the team to the West Michigan Hounds AAA association as Bantam Minors. Brian coached at the AAA level 2011 – 2015. Brian is a level 5 coach with USA Hockey, an Accredited Coaching Director and attended the NARCE conference and received the Hockey Director Program certification. Brian joined the West Michigan Wolves of the NA3HL last season as an assistant coach. Brian lives in Kalamazoo, MI and is married to Karen and has two children, Alison and


Director of Player Personnel

Gordie Brown

                        Gordie is a native of Brighton, Michigan, where he attended Brighton High School and played 4 years of Varsity Men’s Hockey, where he still holds the record for All-Time Total Points. After high school, he played Junior A hockey in the NAHL for the Detroit Freeze and the Lakeland Jets.  Gordie then attended Western Michigan University where he won an ACHA National Championship and was awarded the National MVP.

Gordie gained vast experience in player development, advising, nutritional guidance, while working for Cardinal Sports Group.  Always looking to improve as a person & being passionate about the game, Gordie has attended numerous hockey clinics including the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Clinic, Barry Smith (NHL – Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Buffalo) Coaches Clinic, USA Hockey Symposium where he has attained his Master Level Coach certification with USA Hockey.  Gordie has also spent time being educated on elite athlete training and nutrition, attending events in Texas, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan.  With his strong communication skills, Gordie has been privileged to work with players from North America, as well as from Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Germany, England & France.

Gordie currently is a coach for the Northville Mustangs Men’s Varsity Team, Team Michigan and has worked with Aberdeen Wings (NAHL) as the Head Scout & Director of Player Development, where he spent time on the bench during the 2015-2016 season. Every fall, Gordie is the Head Coach and Director of Player Advancement for Michigan Elite, a high school hockey program built on integrity with the purpose of providing players an opportunity to play against top competition from around the country.

In addition, Gordie spends countless hours scouting for USHL, NAHL, USPHL & College programs, all while advising players & families, in which he has been blessed to assist 100’s of players to advance into Junior and College hockey.  In the spring, Gordie works with MAHA Development Program to help select players for the USA Hockey Development Camp.

During his 8 years of coaching, Gordie has amassed a record of 304-167-38.  His coaching resume includes Head Coach of the Compuware Midget Major program, Brighton Prep Hockey (State Champions 60-9-1), Northville Mustangs, Aberdeen Wings (NAHL), the West Michigan Warriors Midget Major and Meijer State Games (2-Time Champions High School Division). Gordie has also been worked and directed hockey camps including Huron Hockey Schools, Mustang Future Prospects, Michigan High School Excellence Camp, Brighton Excellence Camp and many more.
