Jacob Deratany and Brendan Smith had big nights with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) and 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) respectively as the Lansing Wolves crushed the Toledo Cherokee 9-1 in a home game at Team Toledo Ice House in Lansing. In addition, the Lansing Wolves' offense had a big night, peppering the Cherokee with 55 shots throughout the game. The Lansing Wolves took the lead late in the first on a goal from Brendan Smith and never looked back.
Garrison Weyh chipped in with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Garrett Daum delivered for his team with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists).
In the first, Weyh opened the scoring for the Wolves with a goal at 2:57 with a helper from his teammate Smith. Smith netted what turned out to be the game winning goal at 18:18 with helpers from Diver and Schramm.
During the second period, Weyh put in a goal at 0:49 with assists from Smith and Weaver. Daum deposited a goal at 9:20 with helpers from Diver and Deratany. Deratany netted a goal at 13:04 with assists from his linemates, Daum and Ashley. Felser finally put the Cherokee on the board with a goal at 15:48 with helpers from his linemates, Carter and Snyder. Ashley quickly followed with a goal at 16:16 with assists from his linemates, Daum and Deratany.
In the third period, Deratany netted a goal at 9:25 with helpers from Osinski and Ashley. Osinski quickly followed with a goal at 9:50 with assists from Zucker and Echelbarger. Schramm put in a goal at 12:54 with helpers from his linemates, Weyh and Smith.
The Wolves’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Finstrom as he stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced. Finstrom’s counterpart, Gonzalez, also had a big night, managing to stop 24 of 28, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Lansing Wolves’ record to (9-11-1-2).
